The DS3 Portable DAC/Headphone Amp from Fosi Audio is a compact USB DAC and headphone amplifier designed for both hi-fi music playback and gaming. The device combines high-resolution audio processing with a lightweight and portable design, intended for use with PCs, laptops, and mobile devices.

The DS3 uses an ESS ES9039Q2M DAC chip and supports PCM audio up to 32-bit/768 kHz and native DSD512. Thanks to these specifications, the device is designed for highly detailed, low-distortion, and accurate sound reproduction, with a signal-to-noise ratio of 122 dB and extremely low distortion levels.

A key feature of the DS3 is its in-house developed 7.1 virtual surround sound technology. This hardware-based audio processing reconstructs multichannel audio signals into a wide stereo image, creating a spatial and immersive listening experience. This is primarily designed for gaming, where it enhances directional information and distance perception to give players a competitive edge.

The device supports both standard stereo input and native 7.1 multi-channel audio, allowing it to automatically create a virtual surround sound field, even with conventional audio sources. This generates a wider and more realistic soundscape for both games and movies.

The headphone amplifier delivers up to 220 mW at 32 ohms and supports headphones with an impedance between 16 and 300 ohms. This makes the DS3 suitable for a wide range of in-ear monitors and headphones, including sensitive and demanding models.

In terms of connections, the DS3 features a USB-C port for audio input and power, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. The device works on most systems without requiring additional drivers or software, and supports both UAC 1.0 and UAC 2.0 modes.

The design is compact and lightweight, weighing approximately 16 grams and measuring 55 × 20 × 11 mm. The casing features a distinctive orange accent line and a minimalist, portable form factor designed for everyday use on the go or on a desktop setup.
