The ATH-AWKT is an exclusive wooden over-ear headphone whose ear cups are crafted from the rare Japanese hardwood Kokutan (striped ebony). This precious wood, traditionally used for high-quality wind instruments and pianos, is known for its deep black and brown stripes and exceptionally high density. Thanks to these natural properties, unwanted resonances are effectively suppressed, resulting in a clear, refined, and extremely natural sound reproduction. The hand-applied satin finish accentuates the distinctive wood grain, which only gains more depth and beauty over the years.
Internally, the ATH-AWKT is equipped with specially developed 53 mm drivers and highly efficient German magnetic circuits from Permendur. This combination delivers impressively detailed audio reproduction with a wide, spacious soundstage. The lightweight yet durable titanium flange on each driver, combined with a voice coil made of ultra-pure 6N-OFC (oxygen-free copper), ensures extremely precise diaphragm movement and accurate signal transmission.
The exclusive D.A.D.S. (Double Air Damping System) divides the internal structure of the ear cups into two separate acoustic chambers. This sophisticated design optimizes airflow and delivers smooth, controlled, and deeply layered bass reproduction.
For stability and comfort, the ear cups are attached to lightweight, highly rigid magnesium alloy arms. The tapered design ensures an optimal fit and an excellent seal around the ear. The luxurious ear pads and headband, made of soft, durable sheepskin leather, further enhance comfort, making long listening sessions effortless.
The headphones also feature A2DC (Audio Designed Detachable Coaxial) connectors, to which the two included 3-meter detachable cables can be securely attached. One cable features a gold-plated 6.3 mm (1/4”) stereo jack for use with standard audio equipment. The other cable has a balanced 4-pin XLRM connector, ideal for modern hi-fi systems and optimal channel separation.
Although it is often believed that high-resolution audio made its debut with the introduction of the CD in 1982, the CD format (44.1 kHz/16-bit) never provided a complete reproduction of the original studio recording due to storage limitations. The rise of compressed MP3 files exacerbated this problem, as this process results in the loss of audio data.
Today, lossless file formats, faster internet speeds, and affordable storage capacity make it possible to reproduce true Hi-Res audio (96 kHz/24-bit or higher). The Hi-Res Audio certification confirms that a product meets these strict standards. For headphones, this means that the drivers must be capable of reproducing frequencies up to at least 40 kHz.
As a leading audio specialist since 1972, Audio-Technica has combined traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology. With the ATH-AWKT, the brand delivers an uncompromising listening experience that fully brings out detail, dynamics, and emotion.
