With its new HXDT driver technology, Audio-Technica’s flagship model, the ATH-ADX7000 open-back dynamic headphones, deliver an exceptionally natural, spacious, and comfortable listening experience—the most refined of their open-back models.
The bass is surprisingly full and powerful for an open-back headphone: there’s clear weight, tight control, and solid low-end reproduction. The midrange reveals subtle details in a clear and natural way, making instruments sound present and lifelike, with excellent spatial clarity and precise positioning in the stereo image. The upper midrange and treble remain balanced; they offer airiness and finesse without sounding harsh or muffled, which keeps vocals intimate and makes transients come across as realistic.
This balanced, full sound spectrum is the result of strict control over every detail of driver production—from design and construction to final integration. The HXDT casting process produces a 58 mm diaphragm with a precise curvature, which is crucial for detailed musical reproduction. The diaphragm is precisely aligned with the baffle plate, magnet, and voice coil, allowing energy to transfer more efficiently from the magnet to the coil to the diaphragm and giving the diaphragm greater freedom of movement.
The aluminum housing features a handcrafted honeycomb pattern that leaves the front open while blocking side ventilation to prevent unintended air pressure loss. Thanks to proprietary Core Mount technology, the driver unit is positioned precisely where it needs to be within the enclosure, which improves airflow to the diaphragm. Together, the HXDT and Open-Air design elements ensure that sound emanates directly from the diaphragm, resulting in a more precise, dynamic, and detailed sound reproduction.
The ATH-ADX7000 comes with two interchangeable sets of ear pads—high-quality velvet and Alcantara—so listeners can tailor the sound and comfort to their preferences. The high-density velvet ear pads suppress unwanted resonances and deliver a balanced sound. The Alcantara ear pads offer a more luxurious, durable alternative with slightly more emphasis on the bass and softer highs.
The frame is made of a thin, rigid magnesium alloy: sturdy and stable, yet lightweight (275 g with velvet pads, 265 g with Alcantara). The magnesium reduces unwanted vibrations caused by the powerful new voice coil, minimizing coloration and preserving the purity of the sound. The result is superior comfort combined with uncompromising performance.
The set also includes two detachable, nylon-braided 3.0-meter cables with A2DC connectors: a balanced cable with a 4-pin XLRM connector and an unbalanced cable with a 6.3-mm gold-plated stereo plug. Each headphone has a laser-engraved serial number and comes with a compact hard carrying case.
