Audio-Technica AT-LP7X

The Audio-Technica AT-LP7X is a fully manual, belt-driven turntable that combines analog sound quality with a stylish and versatile design. The elegant matte black finish, the high-quality, high-density MDF plinth, and the 20 mm-thick acrylic platter minimize unwanted resonance and vibration, resulting in exceptionally clean and refined audio reproduction.

During the development of the AT-LP7X, great attention was paid to the optimal geometry of the chassis. As a result, the turntable, spindle, and tonearm are perfectly positioned for accurate and distortion-free tracking. The J-shaped aluminum tonearm, inspired by classic Audio-Technica models from the 1960s and 1970s, features a dual-axis gimbal suspension and precision ball bearings for maximum stability and improved tracking performance.

The turntable comes with the AT-LT10 headshell and the black AT-VM95E cartridge, equipped with a 0.3 x 0.7 mil elliptical stylus. This combination offers excellent channel separation, low distortion, and a rich, detailed sound reproduction. In addition, the stylus is easy to replace or swap out for other models in the VM95 series, giving users plenty of options to tailor the sound to their personal preferences and budgets.

The AT-LP7X is also particularly well-suited for audiophiles who want to experiment with alternative cartridges. Thanks to the adjustable vertical tracking angle (VTA) and the included 16-gram sub-counterweight, the tonearm supports a wide range of cartridges and headshells with a combined weight of up to 23.5 grams. With the optionally available 32-gram sub-counterweight, even heavier combinations can be used. The built-in switchable phono preamplifier also makes it possible to use both MM and MC (moving coil) cartridges.

The acrylic platter is driven by a precision-controlled motor with an optical sensor, which ensures a constant rotational speed of 33⅓ or 45 revolutions per minute. The motor is mounted on vibration-damping rubber bushings that effectively isolate mechanical noise and vibrations from the plinth. In addition, the external switched-mode power supply prevents electrical interference by keeping the AC-to-DC conversion outside the player. Finally, the spring-loaded and height-adjustable isolation feet provide additional protection against external vibrations and unwanted resonance.

The Audio-Technica AT-LP7X comes with a detachable, grounded RCA output cable, a 45-rpm adapter, and a detachable dust cover.

Hifi.nl Rating: 4.5 out of 5

"The Audio-Technica AT-LP7X isn't just a great-looking turntable—it also sounds fantastic for its price range. It’s delightfully easy to use, the included cartridge delivers a wonderfully musical sound, and the built-in phono stage is top-notch as well. You can’t get any closer to a true plug-and-play turntable than this. This is a turntable that made me happy and invited me to play LP after LP. That should really say it all."Read more...
