iFi SPDIF iPurifier2

The iFi SPDIF iPurifier2 is a data filter that actively regenerates the digital S/PDIF signal and effectively removes jitter from the digital signal. This jitter is audible to the human ear due to sharpness, hardness, a lack of dynamics and sometimes a music reproduction that is somewhat out of balance. With this iFi iPurifier2 you will experience an audible warmer sound with less sharpness, better transparency, more detail, spaciousness and a both wider and deeper staging.

What does the iFi SPDIF iPurifier2 do?

This iPurifier2 regenerates the digital source signal 100% bit perfect. There is no up-sampling or resampling involved and the output signal always retains the same bitrate as the source signal. It supports both 2-channel stereo and surround sound data streams from 16-bit 44.1kHz to 24bit 192kHz. The input and output are either coaxial or optical (via mini-Toslink) so this iPurifier2 also acts as a coaxial to optical and optical to coaxial converter. No matter which S/PDIF standard is available or is preferred, this iFi SPDIF iPurifier2 allows music to sound in its full glory.

How does the iFi SPDIF iPurifier2 work?

Plug your S/PDIF (optical or coaxial) source with the supplied adapter cables into the iFi SPDIF iPurifier2. The incoming signal is precisely re-clocked by use of a Femto Master Clock, actively filtered and sent with a correct 75 Ohm impedance (coaxial) to a digital input on your amplifier or DAC. The coaxial signal is galvanically decoupled to both prevent interference from the digital source component and possible ground loops that is noticeable as a light hum in the background. The casing of this iPurifier2 is fully shielded to prevent unwanted RFI/EMI.

Why an iFi SPDIF iPurifier2?

S/PDIF (Sony/Philips Digital Interface Format) is the initial digital output to be available for CD players, DVD players and later also for PCI sound cards. This standard is designed for shorter distances and when transferring the signal, it suffers of relatively high jitter values. Over the years a lot of progress has been made in digital signal processing. In spite of all technological progress, the S/PDIF standard is still widely used in the digital audio world, with all its disadvantages. The iFi SPDIF iPurifier2 removes this with just a cheap and simple intervention.
